The need for medical volunteers exists everywhere in the world, and especially in Kenya. Come and join our Rieko community health volunteering team in Kenya, where we aim to make huge impacts in improving community health in the most rural of areas.
What will I be doing?
With a number of projects to choose from, you will find your ideal community health volunteering project with Rieko. Choose from water and sanitation programs, immunisations, building pit latrines, HIV prevention and education, general health awareness, family planning, School over Sex campaign, as well as various others. Our projects in community health volunteering allow you to fully immerse yourself into a Kenyan community, really speaking to the local people, to allow a real difference in health care standards to be made.
Where will I volunteer?
Community health volunteer projects in Kenya take place in Migori county. Depending on the project you choose to do, is where the specific location is, however locations range from villages around Lake Victoria to rural highlands.Rieko’s projects tend to be located in most rural Kenya to provide you with the most authentic experience possible.
How long will the placement take?
Community health volunteer placements take place for a minimum of 1 month and maximum of 12 months. Ultimately, the length of your placement is up to you. We do however suggest that spend a minimum of 8 weeks in order to realise the full potential of the placement. Placements take place all year round.
Where will I stay?
Rieko medical volunteers have a number of options when it comes to accommodation in Kenya. Choose between 1) Host family, 2) Shared volunteer house, or 3) hotel/B&B accommodation. Accommodation with a host family or in a shared volunteer house is likely to provide you with an authentic Kenyan experience, however hotels are a good option if looking to venture into the bigger towns for community health programs.
Who can apply?
Rieko provides immersive healthcare volunteer abroad opportunities for professionals from all walks of life. To be a community health volunteer, you don’t necessarily need to have a medical background, however a keen interest and/or experience in public or community health will be advantageous to your placement.
